The process of building Pleasant Shimo is often quiet. It is about consistency and discipline.

I started this project in July 2024, just a few months  after finishing my MBA at McGill.

The hardest part was fostering trust with the artists. As a former journalist without a background in the art world, the project began with cold calls to artists asking them to believe in a shared vision for Vancouver and Tokyo. I had to showcase the quality of the concept and the commitment to the final product before any sketch was ever drawn.

One year later, we launched at the Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival. At the time, Vancouver Magazine ran an article stating that our prints capture "How a Neighbourhood Feels"

That early recognition was critical. It helped us build a foundation of trust that has allowed our collective to grow to over 25 commissioned artists across Vancouver and Tokyo.

The recent inclusion of Pleasant Shimo in the 2025 Wish Book  affirms that this dedication to place-based storytelling is resonating.

The resulting discussions, increased engagement, and new followers are the clearest sign that people want authentic, community-based ways to connect with the places they love.

Events like the Dragon Boat Festival and the recent Vancouver Home Show are not just milestones; they are crucial building blocks for new collaborations and partnerships that we are excited to share with you soon.

Stay tuned.
