Pleasant Shimo joins 2026 Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival
Share
At the end of next month, Pleasant Shimo will be heading back to Vancouver to take part in the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival.
We’ll be participating in:
• The Big Picnic at David Lam Park in Yaletown (March 28-29)
• Sakura Days at VanDusen Botanical Garden (April 11–12)
I’ve attended the festival before. It’s one of those rare Vancouver events that feels both intimate and expansive at the same time. Families under the trees. Blankets laid out across the grass. Petals drifting through conversations.
Over the past year, Pleasant Shimo has been steadily building. From being featured in Vancouver Magazine, to making the cover of The Georgia Straight Gift Guide, to activating at the Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival and the Vancouver Home Show. It hasn't been easy, and as I've written before, there are always obstacles to overcome.
Each event has been an opportunity to test, refine and iterate.
The Cherry Blossom Festival feels like a natural next chapter.
Through the Young & Emerging Artists Fund, several Pleasant Shimo artists will be leading live art activations alongside a large outdoor gallery installation. This time, we’ll be bringing more work than ever, including pieces that feature cherry blossoms woven into the identity of neighbourhoods like Mount Pleasant, Asakusa and Queen Elizabeth Park.
There’s also something meaningful about exhibiting these neighbourhoods in the very communities they depict. Showcasing Yaletown at David Lam Park. Bringing Tokyo into conversation at VanDusen.
We’re still refining the activations. There will be participatory elements. Public art. Space for kids and adults to engage. But more than anything, this collaboration represents continued momentum.
We don’t know exactly how it will unfold, but we’re excited to bring these neighbourhoods into bloom.
More details soon.
